The event offers a day of online sessions led by experts from the UK and beyond, offering valuable insights into complementary management options for dry eye in clinical practice.

The programme has four live webinars, each offering one interactive CPD point. Delegates are invited to attend the full programme or choose individual sessions based upon their clinical interests.

Webinar 2: Nature's pharmacy for dry eye disease

This webinar will offer an update on the use of natural products in the treatment of dry eye disease.

The session will feature a comprehensive summary of key findings from the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) nutrition report, with a specific focus on natural anti-inflammatory remedies, particularly emphasising macronutrients such as fatty acids, olive oil, and honey. For example, the therapeutic potential of medicated Manuka honey eye drops is renowned for their dual action as both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agents.

Learn how these natural anti-inflammatories remedies have been effectively employed in addressing various ocular surface diseases, including dry eye and discomfort associated with contact lens wear.

Katrina SchmidDr Katrina Schmid is associate professor in optometry and vision science at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. She is an experienced clinical optometrist, educator, and researcher, and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Her teaching expertise includes ocular anatomy and ocular pharmacology. She has extensive research and clinical expertise in myopia, binocular vision, and ocular surface disease.
