New training resources for the Practice team from Optometry Today  (OT )

Optometry Today  (OT ) releases new modules in training package for practice teams

Optometry Today (OT) has launched new modules in its practice team training programme, produced in collaboration with the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and in partnership with the Vision team at Johnson & Johnson.

The online professional development programme initially launched in 2023, with the release of four training modules. Four additional modules have been added to provide a comprehensive suite of content that is suitable for the whole practice team, with a focus on non-clinicians.

Wendy Steele, AOP Commercial Director, said: “The AOP recognises that every role in the practice team contributes something unique and important to the patient experience and the success of the business they work in. Through our continued partnership with the Vision team at Johnson & Johnson, the AOP continues to develop new topic areas through our practice training solutions, ensuring we support these varied roles and their respective responsibilities.”

The guide covers a wide range of topics designed to support the professional development of the entire practice team, from the optical assistant, practice manager and receptionist, through to the dispensing optician, contact lens optician and optometrist.

Dr Rachel Hiscox, Professional Education and Development Lead in the Vision team at Johnson & Johnson, said: “Johnson & Johnson appreciates the value of the whole practice team in creating a smooth and successful patient journey in practice, and is committed to supporting ongoing education to enable excellence in patient care. We are delighted to continue to support OT’s Practice team training, which we hope will empower teams to further improve their skills for the benefit of patients.”

The new modules include, Contact lens communication for the practice team on perfecting contact lens communication, Solving the mystery behind the opticians' counter exploring the range of products sold in High Street practice, What is myopia management and why does it matter? on explaining myopia to parents and patients, and Selling in practice: you’re not really selling exploring creating a great retail experience.

Each module is non-CPD, consisting of pre-recorded lectures followed by a short multiple-choice exam. Participants will receive a downloadable certificate of completion after passing.
