New AOP webinar programme to support practitioners during coronavirus outbreak

A programme of webinars and CET accessible during lockdown

In response to the UK’s lockdown as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Association of Optometrists (AOP) has launched a new programme of webinars. The sessions are designed to support practitioners through this difficult time.

Covering a range of topics, from practical guidance and wellbeing to managing legal issues, the programme provides learning opportunities, with interactive CET points available, for the practice team.

Speaking about the programme, AOP Head of Education, Dr Ian Beasley, said: “We recognise that practitioners are facing huge challenges at this unprecedented time – with many having to adapt to extraordinary circumstances and a very different way of life. This new webinar programme has been created specifically to tackle some of those issues and aims to help support practitioners – whether it be by building resilience or ensuring they can maintain vital skills for the future.”

Highlights in April include live and recorded webinars on COVID-19 clinical and professional guidance, from Dr Peter Hampson, Clinical Director at the AOP and Managing your mental health during the coronavirus crisis. Allon Barsam, Director and founding partner of Ophthalmic Consultants of London will also provide a CET-accredited webinar, Refractive surgery in 2020: the state of the art

In May, Dr Nicola Logan, Director of Research for the Optometry and Vision Science Research Group at Aston University will present a CET session on Myopia management: managing the balance of the possible and impossible, alongside AOP Clinical Director, Dr Peter Hampson.

The AOP will also be hosting a legal webinar for students – to replace face-to-face events that ordinarily take place in universities across the UK. In addition, Optometry Today (OT) will roll out extended CET opportunities for practitioners.
