The Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU) has appointed two new members to its board of directors.

Specsavers NHS services director, Stephen McAndrew, has replaced Paul Carroll as a FODO-nominated member of the board, while South East Essex independent optometrist, Emma Spofforth joins the board as Local Optical Committee (LOC) representative for the Midlands and East of England region.

Mr McAndrew is a healthcare industry professional with 30 years’ experience in senior commercial and business development roles for companies including Healthcare Risk Resources International and Serco.

Ms Spofforth is secretary of Essex LOC and is the clinical governance and performance lead for the South Essex community glaucoma service. She has also recently been re-elected as the AOP Councillor for the East of England and is an AOP Board member.

LOCSU board chair, Alan Tinger, thanked Mr Carroll for his “major contribution” to the board.

“His experience and input has been invaluable in helping to formulate LOCSU’s strategy and work programmes,” Mr Tinger said.

“I welcome both Stephen and Emma to the board and I am very much looking forward to them both hitting the ground running with their contributions to our board deliberations,” he added.
