Session 3: Navigating the current landscape of keratoconus – a guide for locum optometrists

This session will focus on keratoconus and how it can impact an individual’s vision quality. The lecture will outline how to investigate keratoconus in practice and make safe and appropriate referrals. A summary of topography interpretation as well as management options will be covered so that practitioners can provide patients with necessary information when making the referrals.

Learning outcomes

  • Practitioners will be able to explain to patients about the implications of keratoconus, relative to their scope of practice
  • Optometrists will be able to interpret topographical data to guide management decisions in patients with keratoconus
  • Dispensing opticians will recognise the topographical hallmarks of keratoconus.
