The University of the West of England Bristol (UWE Bristol) Eye Clinic has become the first optometry school in the UK to invest in the Reichert Tono-Vera Tonometer, the supplier, Grafton Optical has said.

The device features the advanced ActiView Positioning System which guides users to the apex of the cornea and once aligned, the Tono-Vera automatically carries out the measurement.

This is designed to provide more objective and repeatable results and give the practitioner confidence in their IOP readings.

Lewes Hambrey, UWE Eye Clinic resident optometrist, said: “Tono-Vera will enable our team and UWE students to obtain precise and consistent IOP measurements, facilitating earlier detection and more effective management of conditions such as glaucoma.”

Patients have reported improved levels of comfort and convenience with the device compared to previous equipment, Hambrey added.

The UWE Bristol Eye Clinic opened in October 2020. Grafton Optical supplied and installed a large amount of the optical equipment for the new facilities.

Bob Keating, sales manager for Grafton Optical, commented: “The investment in the Reichert Tono-Vera Tonometer is a testament to UWE Bristol Eye Clinic’s dedication to staying at the forefront of ophthalmic advancements.”

“By acquiring this state-of-the art equipment, UWE Bristol Eye Clinic is furthering its commitment to excellence in eye care teaching and learning; continuing to provide the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy for both students and patients,” he said.
