Explainer: keeping clean during COVID-19

A two-minute OT  video provides guidance on disinfecting optical premises and equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic

disinfection
OT has produced a brief video guide outlining best practice for disinfecting optical premises and equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The guide covers what cleaning products to use and how these products should be applied to surfaces, as well as the appropriate cleaning procedures to be followed for different surface types.

Although there is a current lack of research into surface cleaning for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, there is some research on other coronaviruses.

The guidance highlights that sodium hypochlorite 0.1%, 0.5% and ethanol 70% were shown to reduce coronavirus activity by a significant amount after a one-minute exposure time.

Optometrists should check the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure the cleaning products will not harm equipment or fixtures and fittings.

OT endeavours to keep the most up-to-date news on our website and this information was correct when published. However, the situation regarding COVID-19 is rapidly evolving. Please check OT’s rolling optics-specific coverage for the latest news and guidance on COVID-19.
