The co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Eye Health and Vision Impairment is supporting the AOP’s cost of living campaign.

The #EyeCareSupportNow campaign, launched this week, seeks to ensure that those who are struggling to access eye care are able to do so during the cost of living crisis.

As part of the campaign, the AOP is calling for a 12.5% uplift in the NHS optical voucher value.

De Cordova, who is Labour MP for Battersea, said: “It is extremely concerning that we still live in a society where people are being forced to struggle on with poor vision, headaches and eyestrain, which inhibits their ability to do everyday tasks.

“Proper eye care shouldn’t be a luxury and people shouldn’t have to choose between spending money on their sight or eating.”

She added: “I fully support the Association of Optometrists’ call on the Government to act now and uprate the NHS optical voucher to protect patients most in need.”
Practitioners are encouraged to share the AOP’s published resources and visit the association’s page on making sure everyone has access to eye care.
