Optometrists are invited to join a new support group that has been established to support the wellbeing of optical professionals in the wake of COVID-19.

Optometrist and life coach, Sheena Tanna-Shah, created the Wellbeing for Eye Care Practitioners Facebook group at the beginning of June with her husband, Piyus Tanna.

“The aim is to celebrate highs and great moments in each individual’s personal and professional life but also embrace and support any setbacks and challenges individuals may be facing,” Ms Tanna-Shah told OT.

As well as regular virtual ‘coffee and connect’ meet ups, yoga, group cooking sessions, meditation and mindfulness events will also be hosted by the group.

Ms Tanna-Shah highlighted that a large number of optometrists are facing a time of anxiety and uncertainty as a result of the pandemic.

“With many practitioners often feeling isolated we thought this would be a great safe platform to support each other, and I believe it's one of the first ones. Many have commented to say that it's much welcome and needed,” she said.
