David Keeler (pictured) has stepped down as president of Keeler after 50 years with the ophthalmic instruments company.

Mr Keeler, whose grandfather founded the company in 1917, joined Keeler in 1965, having qualified as a dispensing optician. In 1972 he moved to Philadelphia, US, appointed to the role of president.

The company hosted a retirement party in Mr Keeler’s honour, during which he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the journals Review of Optometry and the Review of Ophthalmology

Andrew Williams, CEO of Keeler’s parent company, Halma, thanked Mr Keeler “for his immense contribution and his 50 years of service to the Keeler Group in his role as president of Keeler” and wished him “a long and happy retirement."
