Optical Express group has completed the acquisition of Harley Medical Group, sk:n, Skinbrands, The Skin Experts and ABC Medical.

In a statement on the company’s LinkedIn page, Optical Express chief executive, David Moulsdale, confirmed that the acquisition occurred on 26 July.

Moulsdale noted that prior to the acquisition, Harley Medical and Skn Group ceased trading on 17 July, leading to the loss of 450 jobs across 70 UK locations.

“We hope to re-recruit as many of the Harley Medical Group and Skn Group employees as possible, as we know that they are best placed to serve the existing and new patients,” he said.

Moulsdale shared that the intention was to reduce the number of clinic locations from 70 to around 60.

The services of the Sk:n, ABC Medical and Harley Medical Group would also be offered from 100 Optical Express locations in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Croatia and Slovenia, Mousdale highlighted.

Mousdale continued: “We will provide eye surgery, primary care, refractive consultations, and NHS eye examinations and advice from each of the locations we retain.”

He also emphasised the importance of keeping patients informed through the process – with patients of the newly acquired businesses at various stages of treatment and payment plans.

“We will endeavour to communicate with them as soon as possible to ensure minimal disruption to their care,” Mousdale shared.

“We will do our best to advise patients on the best course of action for them relating to their specific situation,” he said.
