A total of 40 Ireland-based optometrists attended the Hakim Group’s first CPD-accredited education event earlier this month.

Held at the Glasson Lakehouse, Athlone, on October 10, the day was organised and led by Clodagh McGovern, an optometrist and director of a number of Hakim Group practices across Ireland.

Clinicians from within Hakim Group, as well as those from independent practices in Ireland, had the opportunity to attend.

A range of clinical, commercial and communication topics were explored through workshops during the day. Speakers included Hakim Group learning and development manager, Kath Truman, who delivered sessions on effective communication and how to manage patient concerns. Théa Pharma head of training and education for the UK and Ireland, Mairead Heffernan, delivered a lecture on the ocular surface, while Hakim Group practice buddy, Mark Chatham, addressed the importance of contact lenses.

Speaking about the event, McGovern said: “It was great to see such a fabulous turnout for the first CPD Hakim Group event in Ireland. Events like these are vital as they give optometrists the chance to network with one another whilst also learning new skills they can implement into their own practice.”

The event was sponsored by Bausch & Lomb and Théa Pharma.
