Optical Express has announced a £5m investment in optical coherence tomography (OCT) equipment.

The multiple confirmed that the latest generation Zeiss Cirrus OCT will be rolled out across its portfolio nationwide by the end of the year, with every Optical Express clinic involved in refractive and cataract surgery care using the new equipment.

The device, manufactured by Carl Zeiss, has already been installed in a number of Optical Express clinics.

Optical Express confirmed to OT that the scan is available to all patients as part of its free of charge refractive consultation that assesses a person’s suitability for refractive and cataract surgery. It is also available as part of the multiple’s new advanced eye test offering.

Clinical services director at Optical Express, Stephen Hannan, said: “It’s great news for patients that this world-leading technology will now be accessible in our clinics throughout the UK and Ireland.”

“The capture of an OCT scan is quick, completely painless, and can put patients’ mind at ease about the long-term health of their eyes,” he emphasised.
