Hoya Vision Care has partnered with med-tech company, Oculera, to bring a virtual reality (VR) perimeter to eye care professionals in the UK and Ireland.

The Oculera Visual Field Analyser can be used to assist with the detection and diagnosis of early glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, scotomas, or brain abnormalities, the companies said.

Hoya customers will have access to the technology from 1 September, with Martin Batho, managing director of Hoya Lens UK, commenting: “We are delighted to be partnering with Oculera to offer this incredible technology to our independent customers at an affordable price.”

He shared: “This partnership with Oculera is an exciting step forward, making cutting-edge VR technology accessible to more eye care professionals across the UK and Ireland.”

The headset is designed to be comfortable for patients, and easy to use, with a portable design. The VR technology supports testing both eyes at the same time, so eye patches aren’t needed and removes the need for a darkened room.

Mert Keleş, CEO of Oculera Health, described the Oculera Visual Field Analyser as the “first and only” CE certified class II(a) medical device, virtual reality perimeter registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency available in the UK.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with Hoya and their independent customers to revolutionise perimetry testing across the UK and Ireland,” Keleş said.

The company will support Hoya customers alongside its exclusive UK and Irish distributor, Birmingham Optical.
