Children playing in the park

Childhood is the time to play and have fun. These days, technology is part of every child’s playtime but it’s important to find the balance between indoors and outdoors. Where needed, child-friendly glasses and other visual aids help children enjoy themselves whatever the setting.

Children love to play. While they may not know it themselves, play is just as important in many ways as school for a child’s mental and physical wellbeing and development. That means good vision is just as important in the playground as it is in the classroom.

Optometrists are the experts in correcting vision problems that may be affecting a child’s ability to do what children do best – play and have fun. Most of the time, vision problems are easily corrected by the optometrist. In more complex cases, the optometrist works with professional colleagues to give the child the best possible chance to lead a lively life.

All parents and carers know that technology is a part of children’s lives. That’s absolutely fine – in moderation. But excessive screen time can cause problems not only due to eye strain when looking at screens but because outdoor play is proven to support eye muscle development and linked to less short sightedness in children. Optometrists are able to advise on the balance between technology and other activities.
