Poor eyesight in older age is not inevitable. You can do a lot, with your optometrist's help, to continue to see well for a long time.

You many find that presbyopia (the inability to focus easily on close objects) gets worse. You may also find it takes longer to adjust to different light levels, or glare, and also that it's harder to distinguish between dark colours. This could make driving more difficult, particularly at night.

Optometrists provide advice and eyewear to suit your needs as you get older. They will assist if your requirements change so that you can enjoy your life and hobbies to the full.

Getting older can bring eye disease, and your optometrist may be the first to spot that at your regular sight test. They will secure you any hospital care you may need and can continue to provide you with advice and eyewear as your eyes change during and after treatment.

It is wise to see your optometrist more regularly - we recommend an annual sight test - and there are lots of thing you can do to keep your eyes healthy.
